My headcanon was that any "crippling" emotions that he had were beaten out of him as a young child, first by Rome, then by Austria, and finally by the death of Holy Rome. He used to cry in severe circumstances and yell when he was in agony, but now...any pain stong enough to get him to scream is almost physically impossible to handle, even for an immortal nation. He always denies his past, however, glossing over it with a simple "I don't cry, I kill." He set up strong steel walls as a barrier from getting hurt, and now, those walls are never going down.
